Happy 2 Years to 5 on the 9!
Thank YOU for your support through this time. So much has changed and I am so glad I could share this time with you.
I have decided to slightly update the format moving forward, so the “New 5 on the 9” will be as follows:
1. Creation - something I made this month (usually my blog post)
2. Sensation - a share about something that is going on with me!
3. Recommendation - a friendly suggestion
4. Feline-ation - an update about Olive
5. Canine-ation - an update about Charley
Creation: Good Bye-Sa - I lost my community. My weightlifting gym BASA (Baltimore Area Strength Athletes), run by Jason Morstein, permanently closed. I feel dramatic saying this but it’s true, so I processed this loss with a blog post + infographic!
Sensation: Breaking News! Seth got an incredible opportunity at Capital One and so we will be moving to Richmond, Virginia in the very near future (we are planning it around our 12 day trip to Kenya at the end of this month! More info on that in the next newsletter). Adventurous times!
Recommendation: Morning Pages! Write three pages of stream of consciousness every morning when you wake up. It gets all the junk and jumbles out of your brain and it helps you start finding patterns in your life.
This is part of a larger practice called The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron which is currently being facilitated by the Fluently Forward podcast. Each Wednesday she summarizes the book and introduces the week’s activities. The consistent part is doing morning pages every day and taking yourself out for an “Artist Date” for at least 2 hours a week.
Feline-ation: Olive had gotten into the habit of screaming every 15 - 20 minutes from 4am - 8am every morning with new demands. Feed me fresh food! Get on the couch so I can sleep on you! Look at this bird! Invite me to jump into bed! Carry me somewhere! Wake up!
We tried a lot of things - making frustrated noises at her, feeding extra the night before, trying to make more sleeping spots for her… but then we found the solution! Communicate. Literally. Seth picked her up and said to her:
“Listen, you can’t keep waking us up like this. It is not sustainable. Please let us sleep.”
And she listened. At least for that morning. Then she continued the torture. If you have any suggestions on how to make her stop, please let me know!
Anyways, here is a random picture of her hiding out in my closet, and another one of her in a nest.Canine-ation: Here is a video of Charley learning some new tricks! I am now using the “target” one to teach him how to jump on the trampoline!
