For this month, I recommend listening to this throwback episode of my old podcast Skit, Skit, Pitch! - Episode 4 - with guest star Alishah AKA the Deep StateThe Buzz: I’m working with Charley on a 6-week obedience course (currently completing Week 2). I have to dedicate a good chunk of time every day to work with him. It’s challenging but Randy, our trainer, is very patient, and wields a quiet authority that both me and Charley respond to well.
Randy has also taught me that I am less assertive than I thought! It turns out that I am such a team player, I kept trying to collaborate with my puppy instead of lead him. Once I made that switch in mindset, not only does Charley stay safe, he is behaving in a way which makes me confident that he feels more happy and secure with having structure and clarity on what is expected of him.I’m sure there is a lesson here somewhere…
